In Iowa City, Midwest Garden Gal begins Project GREEN Garden Forum.

Lisa Hinzman Howard, the Midwest Garden Gal, kicks off Project GREEN's Second Sunday Garden Forum on Jan. 14, 2024, at Iowa City Public Library.

The forum runs from 2-4 p.m. and is free. It will also be livestreamed on the library's YouTube channel.

Lisa's topic, "GIY: Veggies 101," focuses on growing your own food, covering soil basics, raised beds, season extension, and unique planting ideas.

Diane Allen, Project GREEN co-president, highlights the surge in gardening during the pandemic and the $600 average annual yield per garden.

Lisa, a Master Gardener with 20+ years of experience, aims to alleviate gardening anxiety and promote quick success and long-term enjoyment.

Lisa founded Midwest Garden Gal, LLC, authored "Cheap Tricks Gardening," and offers signed copies at the event.

Lisa, a gardening consultant with a B.A. in Marketing, teaches at the University of Dubuque and shares her expertise through speaking engagements.

Project GREEN, launched in 1968, has funded over $2.2 million in environmental projects, including the public garden at Ned Ashton House, parks, and conservation education efforts.
