Rory McIlroy leads DP World Tour’s Dubai Invitational despite quadruple bogey

Rory McIlroy has played magnificently for 35 of the 36 holes so far in the Dubai Invitational

He leads by two strokes over Yannik Paul of Germany after shooting a 1-under 70 on Friday, but his round included a quadruple bogey at the par-3 eighth hole.

I believe I played really well on the remaining 17 holes. McIlroy claimed he hit some excellent iron shots during his Friday round.

"I played pretty much the same way I did on Thursday... However, the situation became more difficult.

The wind was up. The greens were firm, and I made a few of mistakes on the eighth hole

I thought I did well to get my head back in the game and play some good golf on the way in,

everyone seemed to find it a bit more tough today than yesterday. So it's wonderful to have the lead heading into the weekend.

McIlroy hit not one, but two tee balls into the water to the left of the green on the 214-yard 8th hole. His fifth shot found the putting surface, but he missed the 13-footer, resulting in a triple bogey.
